Vacant Marina

But it won’t be for long. Was visiting St. Micheal’s Maryland with my sister a couple of weeks before the season starts. The docks will soon be full of all manor of sea going vessels. But for now, not even a seagull to be seen..

Village in the water

I’ve seen many types of water-side communities, but never one like this. It’s actually in a protected harbor on Presque Isle in Erie, and in the hundreds of times I’ve been there over the years, I never took the side road that leads to this floating village. Over two dozen homes of various designs, floating on the lake. They’re fed electricity as well, so these are true homes. We did wonder if this kept them from paying property taxes!

Under the Bench

The world looks different when you try a new perspective. You find angles and perspective you didn’t expect. I’m not sure what grabbed me more, the strength of the slats, the purity of the blue between, or the understated reflection of the cobble stones.

Taney Tied Up

The USCGC Taney is currently docked at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. She is a survivor of the attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Decommissioned on 7 December 1986, she is displayed in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor along with USS Torsk and Lightship 116.
USCGC Taney is a National Historic Landmark.

Tapping into Spring

This is the time of year up north when the sap starts running, and these cans hanging from Maple trees are often the first sign of the changes. These days they use a lot more of the plastic tubing for this effort,
as all the trees run to a central location, and it requires less work to harvest. So cans like these are a dying breed.
except in the most logical place,- the local cemeteries. Not sure where these trees are getting their nourishment,
but its a great use of land!

‘Sno Picnic

The food is gone
the ants on hiatus.
But the picnic tables have gathered here,
keeping each other warm in some strange orgy-like act.
Waiting for spring,
along with us all.

Shira and the Sweet, Scrumptious, All-Around Wonderful Scone

Good buddy Shira was a natural for S, but simply shooting one person seemed…lacking. Had her sister been awake, I’d have tried for Smiling (or Sneering) Sisters. But I woke up with a hankerin’ to make fresh scones, and the rest is history.

BTW – you’ve meet siblings Beila, Max, Shira and their dad Howard back at “O”.

R R R YOU READY?

Retirement Paradise?

This community, just north of Ft. Lauderdale and conveniently on the flight path, is just one of many. Very Many. They roll over the horizon in every direction you look. Except maybe east where the ocean slows development.

Red Railroad Station

When the kids were young a standard deep-winter trip would be to the warm Salamanca Rail museum. They always had a fire in the stove, and we could walk around and I’d point out the tools and things that I knew of, and make up stories about the rest! On a cold winter day this year, found that it was closed, and judging by the snow and lack of plowing, was a seasonal closure.
